How to Study Last-Minute Before an Exam

One Reader Writes: "I know it's not the ideal way to study, but I've found myself in a situation where I really need some last-minute study tips. Do you have any suggestions for how to get the most out of a cram session right before a big exam?"

Some other ideas that may help:
  • Try using chunking to make information easier to learn and remember. Try to organize information into between five or nine different categories to make sure it stick in your short-term memory. Learn more about how to cram by chunking information in this article from About.com's Grace Fleming.
  • Review your psychology class notes. If you've taken good notes, they should be a pretty good reflection of the material that your professor will include on the exam.
  • Explain the material in your own words. Just reading the material can help, but actually explaining different concepts in your words is one of the best ways to learn and retain information. Enlist a roommate or classmate to help, or just do this activity by yourself if you're really short on time.
